Crown Legacy FC Edged Out by Atlanta United 2 in Home Finale

Debutant Goalkeeper Kai Longanecker Shines Despite Narrow Defeat

On Friday night at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex, Crown Legacy FC concluded their home season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Atlanta United 2.

The match marked a significant milestone as academy goalkeeper Kai Longanecker made his professional debut, stepping into the starting lineup with confidence.

The game's decisive moment came early. In the 13th minute, Atlanta's forward Patrick Weah received a precise pass from Santiago Pita at the top of the box. Weah skillfully maneuvered past two defenders on the left flank and unleashed a shot that, after striking the back post, found its way into the net.

Crown Legacy had a golden opportunity to equalize in the 29th minute. Forward Brandon Cambridge was fouled in the box by Dominik Chong Qui, earning a penalty. Cambridge aimed his shot to the left, but Atlanta's goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom anticipated well, making a crucial save to maintain his team's lead.

Despite several attempts to break through Atlanta's defense, Crown Legacy couldn't find the back of the net. The match concluded with Atlanta United 2 securing the narrow victory.

Looking ahead, Crown Legacy FC (6-13-8, 29 points) will wrap up their 2025 season on Friday, September 27, traveling to face New England Revolution II. The match is set for a 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium and will be available for streaming on MLS Season Pass.
