Matthews Data Center Sparks Debate, Residents to Confront Developer at Town Hall Meeting |
A controversial rezoning proposal for 'Project Accelerate' has led to a reopened public hearing, giving citizens another chance to voice concerns over the massive development. |
A contentious proposal for a new data center in Matthews is heading for a critical public meeting this week.
Residents will have a chance to directly question the developer behind the project, known as Project Accelerate, at a community meeting on Thursday, October 2.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Matthews Town Hall.
This gathering comes amid growing resident opposition to the planned 123-acre facility on East John Street.
Concerns from the community have centered on potential environmental impacts, noise pollution, and the strain on local power and water infrastructure.
In response to the public outcry, the Matthews Board of Commissioners voted to reopen the public hearing on the matter.
The decision gives residents another formal opportunity to be heard.
The official public hearing on the rezoning petition is now set for Monday, October 13, at 7 PM, also at Town Hall.
Developers have stated the project will bring “forward-thinking digital infrastructure” to the area, but many locals remain unconvinced and are demanding more transparency.
The outcome of these meetings could shape the future of development in this part of Matthews. |
