The Town of Matthews, North Carolina, is considering Project Accelerate, a major data center proposed for a 123-acre site near I-485 and East John Street.
Developers Crosland Southeast, Crow Holdings, and Engineered Land Solutions are backing the plan, but reactions from the community are mixed.
Some local businesses, like Steady Eddy’s Pumphouse, are hopeful the center could boost customer traffic and stimulate economic growth.
However, residents such as Danielle Benham worry about higher utility bills, lower property values, and a shift away from the town's original development vision.
During a recent meeting, town commissioners postponed a rezoning decision, citing open questions on noise, infrastructure, and tax impacts.
Further input will be discussed at the September 23 planning board meeting, with a possible council vote set for October 13.
The final verdict could shape Matthews’ future for years to come. Read More... |
